mind and matter

A very interesting exposé is given by Christian de Quincey in his 2002 book
"Radical Nature. Rediscovering the Soul of Matter". De Quincey explores how mind and matter
are related, and argues for the panpsychistic view, i.e. mind and matter are inextricably
linked at all levels, and subjectivity is a fundamental property of matter. "Radical
Nature" is a philosophical book, sometimes technical, with a very important message.

Presence, the core concept of the book, points to conscious participation in a larger field of change,
where one is open without preconceived notions. The book describes change processes as a U:
First "downward", inward, becoming aware, beginning to see from the larger whole, and letting go of fixed ideas.
Then "at the lowest point of the U" transformation, discovering that something larger is happening, and knowing
you are truly connected to that larger process. And finally "upward", outward, realizing the change in a natural
rhytm.
